I loved loved loved this story! Loved it. Loved. Such great characters and wonderful descriptions. I was entranced. Jenkins draws the reader into a world where commonplace animals are anything but commonplace, but are instead spiritual and connected creatures with a complex history to be cherished, shared, and learned from. The narrative deals, in part, with making tough choices and living with the consequences of those choices in a way that children can grasp without feeling talked down to. I eagerly await the next book in this series!
I've just found the perfect book for my 10 year old granddaughter to read to her 6 year old brother. There's fast paced adventure out of doors - sure to please their parents! The book has real information about animal lore that will intrigue both kids. Plus the story simply begs you to read more. Thank goodness this the first in a series. My only question is when does the next one appear?
As a literacy volunteer for more than 20 years, I'm always looking for books to read to my classes that will capture their imaginations and inspire them to read. "Three Paws" is filled with all of the elements I try to find characters you care about, colorful descriptions, sound effects, engaging plots, problems solved, surprises, kindness and little sass! The incredible illustrations appear on just the right pages to enhance the chapters. This is a great book for read-aloud. Bob Jenkins is a creative & gifted "Story Talker!"
Great for kids of any age! Older kids will be intrigued by the ideas of animals in community, creating their world. Younger children will love the adventure that pulls you in right from the start and will enjoy a well-imagined look into the intimate lives of beavers and other creatures. Bob Jenkins is such a superb storyteller that, even though I am an adult, I can't wait to read the next ones in this series. Wonderful read and the illustrations are awesome!

I rarely take time to review books, but after reading “Azriel Dancer,” I became a huge fan of author, Bob Jenkins’s genre-bending writing style. Animals becoming strangely enlightened and suddenly able to communicate? Sign me up! I was not disappointed! While the book is targeted to 9-13 year olds, I would suggest that children as young as 5 would enjoy having this read to them, as well as the adults doing the reading. I found myself feeling the same longing to pick up the next book in the series as I did after reading “Azriel Dancer.” This is the first of three books (so far) in the animal series of this prolific and creative writer, so there is more to come.
Three Paws is a wonderful story that your children, and the parents, will love to read!
I was drawn into the animal world and didn't want to stop reading. Such an enjoyable blend of characters, fantasy, and fun.
I highly recommend this book!!
